LEGISLATIVE BILL S. 1132

Dear Barber and Beauty Professionals,

The Palmetto State Barbers Association exists to ensure that every barber, regardless of their location or years in the trade, has access to the resources, support, and representation needed to thrive.

We are committed to:

  • Upholding Professional Standards: Ensuring that every barber is equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide the highest quality service.

  • Advocating for Our Industry: Representing the interests of barbers at the state level to protect and advance our profession.

  • Providing Education and Resources: Offering continuous learning opportunities to keep our members at the forefront of industry developments.

Our work is more crucial now than ever before, particularly in light of the introduction of Bill S. 1132.

The Threat of Bill S. 1132

Bill S. 1132 poses a serious threat to the barbering industry as we know it. This bill seeks to derail the licensing requirements that are fundamental to maintaining the high standards and professionalism of our craft. Without these standards, the quality of services could deteriorate, putting both barbers and their clients at risk.

If passed, Bill S. 1132 could:

  • Lower Professional Standards: By weakening or eliminating licensing requirements, this bill threatens to flood the market with untrained individuals, compromising the reputation of skilled barbers.

  • Endanger Public Safety: Proper licensing ensures that barbers are knowledgeable about hygiene, sanitation, and proper techniques, all of which are essential to client safety.

  • Undermine the Industry’s Future: Without regulation, the long-term viability and respectability of our profession could be severely damaged.

The Palmetto State Barbers Association is leading the charge against this bill. We are mobilizing barbers across the state to ensure our voices are heard and that we protect the integrity of our profession. While this bill is currently paused, thanks to the efforts of PSBA, it could resume at any time. We are committed to being prepared to fight this bill and any future legislation that could undermine our industry. Will you join us?
