ABOUT THE PALMETTO STATE BARBERS ASSOCIATON

On July 18, 1960, F.L. Ellison along with other founding members, officially founded The Palmetto State Barbers Association with a clear mission and vision to elevate the profession of barbering across South Carolina. The association’s mission was to foster a community of skilled and passionate barbers by providing support, education, and advocacy while advancing the craft through unity, innovation, and professionalism.

The vision of the PSBA, inspired by Ellison's leadership, was to become the premier advocate for barbers, empowering them with the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in an evolving industry. The association aimed to ensure that barbers upheld the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and customer service.

Contributions and Leadership

F.L. Ellison’s leadership transformed the PSBA into a respected organization known for:

  • Advocacy: Ellison ensured that the PSBA would advocate for barbers' rights and work to influence legislation that impacted the industry, giving barbers a strong and unified voice in state policies.
